Council Meeting March 10th

Pond & Bedard absent

Briglio chairs and presents

Meeting was pretty dull stuff – presumably because budget taking up much Councils time/ energy

The preliminary Minutes by Doug Jay are online and do a better job than I can in giving this meeting

I bring forward because of suggestion that compare Census data PR and Terrace for older citizens – which presumably show Rupert has similar or older than Terrace

Tony switches chairs

Below is from the Minutes

Briglio Chair of the ‘Health Advisory Committee of council – he and Peggy davenport gave a presentation ---

While they said over 75 – here I emphasize 65 and older

What I find interesting is the 390 people living alone in PR

Perhaps the fellow below is one those living alone --- he was certainly the type Peggy was saying have been ‘left out’ with change in government policy concerning ‘Home Care’

The Dispossessed

I saw this older man walking very slowly etc near post office on 2nd Ave in PR -- I went to ask him if he was OK, -- he showed me his face and asked if much blood --- “just a little” -- he had fallen -- and broken off a tooth ---

‘I’d usually drive, but with this bum leg (I can’t feel the gas pedal) --- So I just tried walking --- and fell down

I was thinking perhaps should get him an ambulance --- but he wanted to go home first -- I suggested he take a taxi – ‘said that was good idea -- but had to go to post office first’ ---

When I came back later he was gone

Later still I was thinking I should have been more pro-active -- he was perhaps in mild shock --- but if I had called an ambulance at least he would have been 'in the system' --- people would get his name and hopefully a health care nurse or something would check up on him  ---- but I didn't

Jan Jesser and Gordie spoke to Council about Green Apple

They seemed a little surprised a notice had been put on title by the City – and asked that when this is finally settled the City would remove the notice

City said fearing Sale of property – and meant to warn any potential buyer – but would remove

An exchange

A ‘strained’ few moments as Gordon-Payne wanted to shelve Briglio motion for Northern Health ‘independent’ study --- presumably some wearing at each others nerves from the in-camera meetings that went on from 4:30 to 7 PM --- doing budget preparation
