Wolves at the door

Long COS presentation

Conservation Officers from Terrace

Presumably asked to give presentation by Council;

Appeared modeled Bear Aware program, thus: What's the Problem? Sources of Problems Preventing Problems etc ---but did not end with a ‘ Bear-Tolerant Communities’ approach

They are far away is part of the problem – Might explain why they had a ‘generic’ wolf biology approach and missed out on coastal uniqueness etc

My insert:
Coastal Wolves as distinct genetically (see BBC pages) and in behaviour: 75% of time feeding from marine resources : See Raincoast Conservation Wolf site

What are the Options?

Again presumably this is why they were asked to give the presentation:

Can hunt them

Can Trap them

Can exterminate them

(latter probably not feasible for social and economic reason)

Presentation

The title of presentation presumably from a Conference last November which 3 Councillors attended – Here is a UBC Page with various PPT links to talks given

Here is the Conference agenda as brochure PDF

Dr. Stuart Shanker

The Science of Early

Brain Development

Dr. Clyde Hertzman

‘Neighbourhood Influences on Children’s Development’ (PDF for Vancouver)

Dr. Suzanne Crowhurst Lennard

‘Livable Cities for Children’ (Her Web site)

Closing Plenary:

‘Building Cities Fit for Children’

Which seemed what their presentation was intended to ask

Pond: ‘Please don’t mention the OCP’ (Official Community Plan)

Below is what Council was censored from hearing because ‘We haven’t passed it yet’

But more innovatively wanted a ‘child friendly cities matrix’ for Council decisions

Web site is UNICEF      http://www.childfriendlycities.org/home.html

(Don’t tell Pond you looked)

I have numerous articles on Hertman EDI and poverty in PR

·         Déjà vu – dogs; Pond absent; Success by 6 presentation to council Dec 2004

·        About Hertzman & EDI pages from 2004

·        This page still useful for links at end on local poverty

·        Look last January at Poverty in PR

Area 27 - North Coast (Prince Rupert & Queen Charlotte Islands)

O’Brien Road and Bridge Maintenance Ltd.

  1-800-561-5822 to register complaints etc

Terrace and Road standards

Dan Baker representing  BCGEU –

Their web site gives the video presentation & a link to list of standards that contractors should be meeting etc –

http://www.bcgeu.bc.ca/highways

(later—note PR seldom meets these road standards—and they supposedly even work for us)

Below a city truck puts snow from roads on sidewalks to ‘make roads safe for motorists’ – Elders? Kids? They should drive cars like ‘real people’ – more later
