How Much
$$$? I hear two
numbers: only 7 first responders have availed themselves of the freebie Or 32 have been
given free passes--- (I have asked City
Hall to tell me the number – but lets use both for time being) |
|
I
suggest it should be illegal for someone to give RCMP ‘gifts’ --- and
‘illegal’ for an RCMP officer to accept ‘gifts’ --- but I am not a lawyer ---
might just be disciplinary matter See this RCMP ‘ethics’ guide Gifts, hospitality or other benefits that could influence employees in their judgement and performance of official duties and responsibilities must be declined. Employees must not accept, directly or indirectly, any gifts, hospitality or other benefits that are offered by persons, groups or organizations having dealings with the government. True
this is not ‘clear cut’ But
the Public Service has Ethics codes for ‘murky’ matters too--- The
Deputy Head will then notify the public servant in writing whether the gifts,
hospitality and other benefits are to be declined or retained by the
department, donated to charity, disposed of, or retained by the public
servant concerned. |
How much are Taxpayers ‘donating’
to let 1st Responders use Recreation facilities for free???
|
|
If Only 7 then that is about 300$ a month or about 4T$ a year ‘we’ are giving
these (men?) to stay in shape --- But
if the number is more like 32 then that is about 1500$ a month Or
about 18T$ per year --- ‘only’ $1.50
donation from every man, woman and child in Rupert Personally
I don’t care if 7 or 35--- the principal is the same – no matter how much
spent --- and I contend it is both immoral and illegal (assuming the
supervisor has not given permission in writing) |

Competing with local businesses |
|
The
PRDN article by Leanne Ritchie captured the
presentation by the Richard Lutz to City Council Monday well --- though
previously assured Civic Center would not compete with local gyms—now City
has recently purchased new equipment – offering ‘personal trainers’ etc ---
and in case of 1st Responders all ‘given’ for free |

|
|
And there is MORE??? |
|
I
hear that a full facility fitness center is planned for area marked in yellow
on image to right – New building and all --- displacing the totem pole etc –
perhaps using 2010 Olympic money grants etc |
|
|
|
|
See
previous story on RCMP when
only looked like swimming was to be for free |
|
I also hear the
City finds itself 2M$ in debt (from last year??) If so
I predicted when ‘logic error’ first discovered |
We hear --- 1st
Responders get free passes to Civic Center – free hockey, swimming, etc
|
|
Today
I met a young woman and her toddler – they were going to the swimming pool –
and the toddler was very happy about prospect – I asked the Mom how much it
would cost her--- Five bucks for herself and about $2.50 for the child ---
expensive – but ‘good for the child’ Above I question if RCMP ‘freebies’ are legal –plus the owners
of The Gym told Council Monday they thought it was
unfair to have to compete with the City – using taxpayer $ to compete
with private businesses |
