Meeting started
early Media was informed –
but mere Citizens (like me) arrived at usual start time to find almost over –
‘Pond et al’ had to make the formal opening of ANBT --- but staff made available
to me the MP3 recording of meeting |
|
|
Youth, GHG
emissions, & trains |
|
Two
of delegations were for information and the 3rd for ‘action’ |
|
|
Brooke was busy –
both present as a journalist and a ‘Youth’ – recounting her stay along with
90 some others down in Victoria for the BC Youth Parliament --- she told
council of purpose, ‘Youth serving youth’--- about Camp Phoenix; ‘Sweet Dreams’ auction; Regional yp etc – she lamented few
from ‘North’ attended – and BCYP mainly urban areas in SW corner BC (see also publications page
various links to documents like ‘the parliamentarian etc) Jen Rice of WWF
spoke about Earth Hour (accompanied
by Brooke who is also on Green Task force replacing Alex) --- concept is to
turn off lights March 29th at 8PM – if City agrees then can join Cities Involved
worldwide
– in CA --Toronto is ‘lead
city’ --- questions about technicalities of BC Hydro measuring changes in
electricity used/ not used etc --- Jen
also suggested going to Good
Life web site where Take
Action suggests ways to reduce GHG emissions by lifestyle changes and the
amounts saved – this leads to concept competition say between the 2 local
high schools to see which can reduce emissions the most etc Brian Denton f 2134
Graham Avenue was spokesperson for those upset with CN ‘whistle blowing’ at
RR crossings --- (lets savour the irony a moment – isn’t this the address of
person ‘attacked’ for suggesting sub-dividing
his property last week? And now he speaks on behalf of those same
neighbors on another issue?) His
presentation was to read the letter and the meeting then moved to staff ‘recommendations’

I am dubious
this can be done with out significant cost to City Not mentioned is who conducts the assessment?: See page Detailed assessment See this Transport
Canada page etc |
|
|
See Detailed
Safety Assessment Field Guide (TP 14372E) (April 2005) The responsible
authorities, which are the municipality and the railway company, and the road
authority where the road authority is not the municipality, shall jointly conduct a
detailed safety assessment of the grade crossings. |
