Local Manager
of Recreation center has told staff to give fire fighters & cops free
‘swim passes’ Presumably Council
when told (by me) split 50-50 whether to authorize the policy In meanwhile –
policy will continue says email to staff |
|
Here is an
excerpt:-- Council discussed
the merits of the RCMP/Firehall passes at last week’s City Council Meeting (must have been in-camera LG);
a program based on my desire to increase adult presence and adult role models
during our evening public hours and to keep our emergency first responders as
physically fit as possible.(Keeping people fit is role of Civic Center – Seniors and Kids pay
though LG ) Council was
evenly split on a decision whether to continue or rescind the program. They instead referred it back to the City
Administrator for more information.
The City Administrator asked me to neither discontinue nor expand the
program but to monitor usage and report back. (Ah so you have gone against direct request of your
boss? LG) Since receiving this
direction, an officer you referred to me, has questioned the fairness of a
program that allows some officers, (those who have already been issued
passes) and denies others (those seeking passes now). Based on this discussion, I made the
decision to continue to issue officers passes until further instructed by the
City Administrator and City Council. |
Interesting ideas here – ‘Fairness’ Vandalism etc |
|
While
one can sympathise with the reasoning – me thinks the administrator has
exceeded his authority – if not legally than morally The
swimming pool is a huge draw on public monies – almost as much so as the Airport
Ferry (my 2006 story, and 2002 one) – and as with the airport one
feels the $ is spent for benefit of a few at expense of majority And
protection from vandalism – I will return to this later but similar to use of
Video cameras – which are monitored by public employees (9-1-1 operators so I
am told) --- use of special police while budget to RCMP slashed (public fend
for yourself – but keep my residential taxes low) More
later – full text of ‘email’ upon request |

How many free passes do we get?

Much
