Rains coming

Notice the low in image above marked A

All those closely spaced pressure lines ‘promise’ a strong system – hopefully it will weaken as it comes out into the Pacific – will have to keep track of it over next few days --- presumably A above same as 1 on image left (note the different observation times)

Rezoning Sea Sport into a school

Seems to have attracted lots of attention by community --- many wondering why the merchants so opposed when the intention of program seemed benign --- of course there remain ambiguities – is this ‘thinking outside the box’ or merely an ‘alternative school’ (for poor performers)? --- There are many other sites downtown available --- (22 closed stores on 3rd etc)
Or has too much time and money been sunk into Sea Sport venture? Is lease ‘breakable’?

School has its own web site http://pacificcoastschool.ca/ (though the lighthouse looks like those ‘down south’, not NC)

Trail making or ‘burning up’ budgeted $$$??

Bridge for hikers (?) being built Cow Bay area

So why so late in year?

Looks like City intending to widen the hiking trail --- turf removed and fine gravel put in all the way from Rushbrooke down to Cow Bay

Bad part is that a heavy rain will start eroding the surfaces this late in season

Plus rationale for doing it not all that clear – other than perhaps a matching grant that has to be spent before year end --- and now that the trail down to Seal Cove dropped this might be the alternative ‘choice’

See my earlier material on Rushbrooke to Seal Cove trail – the slide in 2001 and the downed trees in 2007 and again

The fellow in wheelchair used to live here – his decline is also that of the building – at one time Inlander was a refuge for people on margin (my previous ‘homeless’ story) – they looked after each other etc --- but no one was paying attention to Dwayne any longer – perhaps the building itself has outlasted its ‘usefulness’

Inlander Hotel --- throwing debris over side into next lot

Hopefully repairs being done to the indoors too

In past Council has ordered the exterior cleaned up – but it is the inside that is main problem

2008 Salmon Review

For previous and link to WWW site

At Review they had Enforcement officer give his wrap up for season – (and see page 68 and following in main report for stats etc

Locally there was issue of ‘live boxes’ to be used to resuscitate salmon (steelhead etc) before released – it was a condition of license to gillnet or seine --- but many were not complying – so Fish Cops put in some extra enforcement – 30% of the boats inspected were not in compliance – led to some disagreement from fishers over how reg was to be interpreted

More interesting to me was how Fish Cops stopping vehicles on Highway 16 (with help of RCMP etc as under present Fish Act don’t have authority to stop a vehicle) – cars were stopped and searched for too much fish – which was a problem at times on Skeena River – and see my earlier where some sports taking away huge boxes/ bags of fish ---

Nice that it may be illegal – and Fish Cops were looking --- more on Salmon Season 2008 later
