Dan Rodin’s
first seat in ‘hot chair’ --- the absence of Gordon Howie might account for lack
of substance at meeting |
|
Some
significant public issues sent to next meeting where citizens can have input—thus extending PR Hotel
liquor license an extra hour (by opening at 11 AM rather than noon) But also the
less consequential changes needed for variance permit --- which could/ should
be dealt with by ‘Board
of Variance’ – see my previous |

Revisiting ‘tabled’ issues |
|
Bedard
and Pond attended North Central Municipal Association (NCMA) meeting last?? where
she was acclaimed a director --- and from meeting wants to revisit ‘measuring
up’ campaign which was tabled earlier in year by this council |
|
|
Cote got some laughs and good
points |
|
His
I heard ‘Mill is going to start up’ – which said jokingly – and brought
series of jokes from others waiting meeting to start – Gordon Payne: ‘we will
reserve a room for you’ (at hospital) etc Cote
in response to Thorkelson worries that cannery workers might have to pay to
park (see my earlier on pay parking)
reminded Council that BC Packers has a large empty field ‘surrounded by
barbed wire fence’ that would make a perfect parking lot for boat trailers
etc --- a point I have often made in these pages |

|
Gordon Payne & Kinney |
|
Kinney reported a good citizen who has
taken upon himself to ‘over number of years tried to keep Moresby Park
looking good’ was approached by RCMP after a complaint that he was cutting
salmonberry bushes on public lands – City will give a letter saying OK to cut
their bushes etc Gordon Payne wished to know what had happened
with complaints/ her concerns about Highway 16 maintenance – Pond responded
it has been adequately dealt with ‘through proper channels’ by letters given
to minister etc by Monahan recently – Note
Port Edward sent a resolution – and ‘proper channels’ sounds like spin for
government rather than locals. |
|
Tomorrow I
will contrast Puddle with a real council meeting --- like in Terrace where
all kinds of public issues found to deal with at their May 14th
meeting – many of these same issues used ot be dealt with at PR meetings – before
Mayor Puddle changed things |
Mayor Puddle type meeting
|
|
(Too shallow
to be a Pond) Mayor
Pond while discussing Thorkelson request that public be given greater role in OCP and more
information seemed to state his Puddle philosophy – ‘public was not
interested in detail – they only wanted their issue dealt with – now’ This
is the politics of Style over Substance – look good for the
cameras and put in a few catchy phrases and the public will go back to
watching TV |
