For my previous
stories on 2007 PR municipal budget – w links |
|
---2007 tax rates
To make sense of the rates need to have
what 2007 total actual assessments are for each category—this page looks at
changes in total assessment and taxes over last few years using data from
ministry site |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
I have
used the 2007 values given at
January ‘Assessment’ meeting – they are rounded off while 2003-2006
actual and exact |
Here use 3
of 6 categories |
|
‘Recreation
Non-Profit’, Utilities & ‘Light Industry’ total assessment so small in
comparison that hardly show up on graph Business held relatively stable at about
95M$ (after dropping to 88M in 2003) but jumped to 108.9M in 2007 --- while Major
Industry (pulp mill etc) had dropped about 30% upto 2006 – and then fell 28% from
2006 to 2007 --- Note especially how Residential held relatively steady
thru 2005 then > 24% in 2006 and 23% in 2007 reflecting new optimism over
port developments etc |
|
|
PR taxes
over time – but not 2007 |
|
Again
I have left out School, Hospital, etc taxes --- shows that 2005 was the nadir
– when city services had to be cut back etc The
‘user fees’ include things like sewer and water – which are paid on a flat
rate basis while ‘municipal total’ is from tax levy on assessed values --- thus in 2006 the council of the day
chose to increase Sewer and Water fees while ostensibly reducing tax rates
etc |
