Note the ‘Benefits’
include various options for Life insurance , Blue Cross, etc – similar to
what employees contractually paid |
|
Local Government employees are not paid
lavishously – (well Tanalee’s wage does seem
lavish). Still Janet held a 2nd job for years to supplement her
meagre SQCRD income Squabbling over
the perks of office was what got Janet fired – I’ll document
this Tuesday --- for today lets look at background info-- |
|
Saving the voters (Masset/ QC
) money |
Let the others Pay |
|
Notice
above how both Pages & Kulesha are getting the SQCRD to pay for their
medicals etc Idea
is that it saves their municipalities $$ by utilising Regional District monies
instead of their local tax-payers. Thus I understand they could get the same
coverage through their own municipality but then their taxpayers/ voters
would have to foot the bill. There
is a story going around that in last Union- Regional District contract
negotiations, Barry Pages got ‘braces’ included in benefits package for
‘employees’ --- seems his wife needed brace(s). You
get the picture --- these elected Reps are looking out for number uno |

Christine MacKenzie replaces Dave MacDonald
in
2005 |
|
The
comings and goings of Port Edward reps are important in the firing of Janet
Beil. Ed
Wampler (Mayor Ed) was chair of SQCRD for years and seemed to value Janet
immensely. But poor health meant Dave MacDonald took his position in 2005. I
hear that when PR was seeking to get SQCRD backing for loan of 7M$ --
MacDonald, who is employed by city of PR in his day job--- felt (rightfully)
there was a conflict of interest --- So Christine MacKenzie took the Port Ed
seat (see
Tuesday where I document the fight between Port Ed/ SQCRD perks was ‘reason’
Janet fired ) |
|
|
‘We got rid of that NDP bitch’ |
|
There
are the reasons in documents and then there are the sub-texts: that the ‘City
of PR’ did not like the autonomy of SQCRD ---- and then there was the
political differences – Janet is a member of the NDP and presumably the Board
is not NDP Thus
PR board members have been overheard to say that they got rid of Janet
because she was NDP (Tuesday
I will name names if I can get corroboration of these rumours) |
|
Elections
will come again |
Summary: Janet fired
|
|
How much did
SQCRD pay in severance? – We’ll probably never know as I hear that Janet had to
sign a document saying she would not reveal the sum --- So case is
being built that trivial dispute over perks was used to fire Janet after her
19+ years’ service – luckily she was able to get a lawyer – and thus our Reps
(sic) had to pay for termination without cause |
