Port a law unto itself?

New ‘structure’

Presumably has something to do with security

Interesting example of the Port’s relation to City PR

‘We’re Federal so don’t bug us’

thus no need to have a building permit or to erect this substandard building

But look closer

Hey what is this Transformer?

Public safety issue or liability?

The implication is that BC Hydro considers it dangerous – but not clear why ---

If public safety – then they might be afraid something will ‘set off’ the transformer

If it is merely concern with liability then the Port will simply not be able to claim damages if transformer explodes (for whatever reason)

City has no jurisdiction

Looking at the building lot (available at city hall) – the pen points to the new building – clearly on Port lands

What is interesting is the ‘original’ land boundary – at the ble arrow --- thus most the lot and road are simply fill and did not exist before

The Atlin Terminal is almost 75% on fill etc

We’ll see what BC Hydro has to say about the matter
