New ‘Parking
vision’? or Special Interest Group?
One hour
parking vs 2 hour parking @ curb side |
|
I don’t think
the data justifies the conclusions--- data shows couple ‘problem’ areas – not
a general one – and just as was ‘easily’ solved along George Hills Way by
making people pay that stayed longer than couple hours – similar remedy would
solve ‘Cow Bay’ problems (see
links below) |
|
|
Images from
Boulevard report |
|
I
have reduced the resolution image left to cover similar area to above image –
shows high turnover rates along 3rd
Avenue and 3rd Street with 2nd Avenue and most streets
(1st 2nd & 5th) next level daily
turnover rates etc |
|
|
Closer view |
|
And
now we move closer to the ‘problem’ Cow Bay area --- seems the two (one & two)
lots have all day parkers (presumably employees of area businesses) |
|
|
Here are the
problem areas |
|
Again
we see ‘problems’ (>85% occupancy, etc) in Cow
Bay coincide with places where all day parkers congregate to use
free parking provided by City --- Note 1st Street off 3rd
Avenue – presumably Credit Union parkers – but may need shorter period than 1
hour |
|
|
Weekends
still a ‘problem’ |
|
Again
Metering would ‘solve’ problem (as it did on George Hill Way)– note the original
traffic survey done during a fishing derby weekend |
|
|
I will
return to the specific recommendations of study on another day |

July 2005--
My report on earlier parking study where
2970 spaces available downtown - |
Previous Parking stories on this
site
|
|
My earlier prediction ‘Special Interest
Groups’ Page has numerous
previous parking story links bottom page We first saw
Parking Task Force in July 2005 where surprise—signage was of immediate concern – Yes
there had been a previous parking study in 1985 when population much higher (see my report) And see era when
Kumar was going to earn > revenue
(rather than raising taxes) by putting meters down town (he projected 200T$
by 2007) Here is Feb 2006 where Kinney reminds Council that
Parking Task force yet to be – I then suggest only 3 problem areas Here is July 2006 where several parking problems noted –
especially George Hills Way – or lets charge kids fees at Civic Center but
not boating ‘Tourists’ And Here is an old
article where Overwaitea was fixing parking
lot – seems the foundation was Hog Fuel --- Rupert could learn a lesson or 2
about not putting foundations of ‘hog fuel’ (pulp mill) |
