Census data & crime stats

2006 data shows up in July

Forget ‘crime rates’ –

Criminal Code Offences

All forces constant – Terrace 25 PR 36 Kitmat 15 Smithers 9
But PG increased form 121 to 124 in 2006

Data published on web does not use the Census population data --- which is difference of 2000 for Rupert – thus our ‘crime rate’ actually one of highest in province

Prince Rupert data

Demography explains it

We all know Rupert has lost population – but looks like it is mainly from ‘working age’ adults ---

Which has implications from ‘volunteering’ to ‘Bar Crowd’ etc

--- Demise of pulp mill etc shows up in ‘dependency’ indices too

Source: Stats Can PR population 2006

Terrace data – similar to PR

Compare with Provincial age structure

Dependency & Poverty

Similar ranking for % children <19 receiving Income Assistance (9/2006) – and highest ranking for youth 19-24 receiving Income Assistance (w Terrace 3rd highest)—Here by Heath District

2006 Socio-economic indicators

Again this is from larger Provincial map subdivided into health districts
