Public input into 5 year plan

It’s the law

Citizen’s have their say

But administration speaks first and last

Please Note

Public can still provide input (even if did not attend meeting)

Here is link to their

I have highlighted the areas that I think need more attention or information

In general one needs the 2006 budget or audited values to give meaningful comment

Thus if had 2006 info we would see that Economic Development is getting a 30% increase

Public $$ to a ‘secret’ organization – for which public never sees reports etc--- while no increase in $$ I would put same charge to Visitor Center, Tourism PR and perhaps the Museum

I have seen Tourism attending ‘in-camera’ meetings – presumably making their case for funding – these should be public or atleast public should have some accountability for the $$

Ferries remains the worst case of public $$ going to un-accountable destination

And what are these capital programs/ purchases?

Overview of City Budget

This was not in original package but offered at meeting
A quick Synopsis of all the detailed line items offered public
these links lead to City PDF

PR Financial Plan (City’s page where link to 1 Megs PDF City of Prince Rupert Financial Plan (2007 - 2011) - draft)

More to come

Ferries Need attention – 800T$ per year drain

Note the reason for tax increase was  360T$ more needed this year
more to come

Was the new Web site worth 300T$

Homeowner Grants: do the paperwork correctly or you will lose it—best to post date check and submit early so staff has chance to check if filled out correctly

Province has a program for those over 55 that will pay City Taxes and then ‘settle’ when will is read etc (I will get details later)

Bruce reminds public of Provincial programs --
