OCP for Rupert

Alarm bells ringing

1st of series

 

 

We went through this exercise in early 1990s and now it is time to update the official Community Plan

 

Good idea

 

But also time to be wary as the ‘Taking Care of Business’ crowd can do a lot of damage to the ‘public good’

City has Xeroxed off a number of the documents circulated in 1990s and they are still useful in 2006 as background

 

What is big deal about OCP?

It is the basis of all zoning in Prince Rupert – and thus ‘implements’ the vision that planners/ citizens have for the development of Rupert over time

 

 

Where to Grow next?

Here are the alternatives as seen in 1992

The proposed shopping Mall out the highway is here called Area B (left)--- and the Seal Cove area is area A (an earlier general view Seal Cove & OCP)

So you have one of the sub plots – the developer does not have to return to PR to change the zoning at BC Hydro property --- the city will do it for him when changes the OCP

 

 

Only one Irony – we did not grow
