Sidewalk vendors policy

A modern ‘enclosure’ of commons?

Cheap seating space at public expense?

Note how the rain is wetting 50% of platform

See earlier article on this subject where current patios shown -- some costing to 10T$ --

Business Friendly city council

For 25$/week --you too can (not) have prime real estate on city streets in which to sell your booze ---

(Oh yes, there is also a 100$ ‘encroachment fee’ – paid once to city)

Supposed to have a ‘general covering’ to keep off the rain --- but hey 50% from the awning above should cover that --- sort of like the no platforms attached to city streets unless a significant grade – provisionRules R 2B broken

Cheap seats

To qualify for off season reduced rate would have to remove the platform as I read the policy

(method left in estimating the sq footage – line was = both platforms and it was about 2/3rds width of this 50 foot lot)

Out for Business

Who cares if they are blocking the sidewalk?

Not the City it seems

Illegal sign

Illegal tables and chairs

All on city property

And they don’t even pay the minimal fee for ‘small sidewalk patios’

More respectful of others – but still illegal

As I read the regulations this establishment needs a small sidewalk patio permit and pay the fees – to put these ‘smokers’ tables on public sidewalk

City too busy to enforce its own by-laws

Sure these signs are illegal – and yes the city would be liable if anyone sued –

But Council and administration are not worried ----
