“Boardwalk
site (GbTo-31) is key” to area |
|
This
aerial photo is in The Dig; it clearly shows the Boardwalk site (white
arrow) over at Dodge Cove I
have also put a white line over another trace of past that did not show in this
copy—presumably the cut lines thru the forest dates from WW2 when army
present and needed rapid access to various parts of the island Here is 3,000 yr
old copper
bracelet from Boardwalk site -- and obsidian
trade items from Hospital Island ‘GBTo-18 – (see next image where this
site dates back 5000 years) |

BC Studies – review articles of
Archaeology in 1970’s--- |

An overview of the North Coast Prehistory Project
(1966-1980) volume 48, W’80/81: 37-63
by George F.
MacDonald and Richard I. Inglis This
1980 over view of our area is ‘classic’ early synopsis – PR Harbour seemed
ideal at the time with villages dating back 5000 years (as image left of radiocarbon dates
for 9 different sites) (PR Library has this journal number in
its collection) |
|
These researchers have divided the PR archaeology into three periods – Period III:3000 BC to
1500 BC Period II: 1500 BC to
500 AD Period I: 500 AD to
1830 Increased population about 1500 BC
thus rapid midden
growth – and the harbour was virtually abandoned in 1830 when Port
Simpson became the main winter village site – close to Hudson Bay Fort |
