for Ocean View liquor license
hearing
About five people spoke in support of
the Ocean View; while not on the public presentation the RCMP report
was interesting. Not only did they do their research with surrounding
neighbors, the report has interesting statistical information (like list,
capacity all liquor licenses (interestingly some establishments have 2
licenses) for total 1964. Also has
number of people living with ˝ mile (2,587)
etc. Plus records population decline of 12.4% between ’96 & 01. More
interesting is the comparison of people getting EI etc (from 21% in ’01 to 12% in 9/’02) |

What is ‘holding’ Rupert back?? |

Most
local business spokespeople blamed it on City Hall. Too
many rules, red tape, etc. The answer was New Era Liberals to sweep all those
impediments to entrepreneurs away. In
the ‘boom times’ Tom Ireland was the ‘City Planner’. In the Bust period he is
a ‘corporate administrator’. Much of the ‘drama’ in previous months is how
“Council” has tried to control staff and get a more positive climate. I suggest this was a boogey man that did not exist.
The ‘causes’ were beyond individuals either staff or local business owners Still
much of the meeting was how to ‘plan’ for decline ---- |
