LRMP

MAPs and Meanings

Visuals – and not being prescriptive

Much of the LRMP wording is vague with an intent being expressed and leaving it to ‘professionals’ to figure out the details.
Thus Red zones on map are to have no more than 5% alteration – but exactly what that means is left vague. Terms like “green-up” (re-growth after area logged - are left undefined e.g. 20 meters tall = green-up?

Time is Running Out

New Era politicians sets deadline

When the Table was given a deadline to be finished there was a subtle shift – now the meetings became longer and more often – soon it was only the paid ‘hired guns’ that could afford to attend. Smaller community type groups had to drop out; they could not afford to attend so many meetings and miss their pay check. The up side was easier to reach agreements among those left – most of whom had been on Central Coast or interior LRMPs, often with same people as at NC LRMP

Would you explain that?

Some simply attend ‘occasionally”

Local Government (Paddy Greene) is best example; he attends about ¼ the meetings and thus never really current on what is going on—or what the words being used have been defined as --- thus a lot of time wasted clearing up misunderstandings. Others have joined the Table late have similar problem. “Risk??”

First Nations

“Indian Fighters”

Many “whites” feel the first nations are over represented at the Table “we are out numbered”. If the concept of “stakeholders” etc seems dated to early 1990s then the role of FNs is at other end. Recent court cases have given them more clout and the provincial government allowed a larger role than any previous LRMP. Again, ther are some at Table who are stuck in the 1980s and see any mention of “rights and Title” as political and beyond the scope LRMP.
